Purchasing a point-and-shoot digital camera isn’t the end of the story. What you need to do is get the perfect bunch of add-ons and accessories to complement he snapper. We tell you the most important accessories to buy for the digital camera.

Battery: If the batteries in the camera are the AA type it is better to get a bunch of 1350 mAh Uniross or Sony batteries, rechargeable type. Buy the pack with the charger, and you are pretty much set for the long trip.

Memory Card: If you are going for a long trip, and don’t want to be bothered by dumping images from the memory card to the laptop every day, get a bigger memory card. Depending on the type of memory card (usually, it is the SDHC card), it makes sense to invest on a bigger memory card. While the camera will come with a 2GB (or whereabouts) card in the box pack, you will need a bigger card of you use the camera a lot.

Carry case: Dust is your digital camera’s biggest enemy. While on the road, or even when stored away at home, dust will accumulate on the camera, and will end up clogging the components. Get a carry case, and protect the cameras from dust and even scratches. Which reminds us, scratches will kill the camera in an instant. Be very careful that the lens doesn’t get scratched, else its pretty much game over. Get a case meant or your camera, so that it fits in perfectly.

Micro-fiber cloth: The camera’s lens will eventually, gather a bit of dust, or even smudges and fingerprints, of some illiterate friend of yours has been fiddling with the camera. However, please do not rush to clean it with just any cloth, else you will end up scratching the lens badly. What you need is a micro-fiber cloth. This is the smoothest cleaning cloth solution you can buy from a store near your home, and use that to clean the camera. Not very expensive either, costing anywhere between Rs 50 and Rs 200.
