In India, BenQ does not have a strong brand recall for laptop buyers. However, their new net book BenQ Joybook U101, does look good. What strikes you first about the Joybook U101 is the beautiful surface which has accented patterns below its blue gloss finish. It does look one of a kind and very personalized. Once you flip the top, however, it reminds you of LG XNote and the Lenovo IdeaPad S10. What stands out are the metallic power button, round edges, two set of LEDs and rounded mouse button.

The screen dimensions of the Joybook are 16:9 and are capable of a resolution of 1024 x 576. This implies a slightly lower vertical workspace than the usual displays with resolutions of 1024x600. While this may appeal to movie aficionados with wide screen look but not so great with other applications. The remaining hardware is as per typical netbook standards what is impressive is that the Joybook Lite U101 is one of few with 1 gigs of memory in the base version.
 
The U101 comes with 1.5 GB of RAM which can be upgraded to 2GB. The performance however is not a big improvement over other netbooks. The battery (3 Cell) lasts a little over two hours which compares favorably with the 10-inch Lenovo S10, although by only a small amount and is much better the LGX11

The BenQ U1010 has nothing spectacular to offer in terms of performance or features. A set of basic features and looks is what it has going for it mostly. Being new, we haven’t received an indicative price for this model. Still, the BenQ Joybook Lite in our opinion is a good option in case it is priced near the Rs 20,000 range.
