Lenovo has launched two entry-level laptops under the Z series line – the Z460 and the Z560. The laptops come in glossy black shells and brushed metal finish on the inside. Both the laptops we received came configured with Intel Core i3 M350 (2.27GHz) processors, 2 GB of DDR3 memory and also 320GB hard drives. We will concentrate on Z560 as apart from the screen size both laptops are same.

The touchpad has a rough finish which is not the most comfortable. Just like other laptops, the dedicated controls are there on the key board itself.

All the standard ports are available – eSATA capability is an additional feature not found in many laptops. Scalloped keys also make typing a little easier.

Performance wise too, the two laptops have very similar performance scores. 3DMark scores were almost identical and CPU. Doom 3 also gave around 21 fps at 800x600 medium detail. These laptops are definitely not upto the mark when it comes to gaming performance. HD video playback is no issue though. The overall score was also lower than the Z460.

If you’re looking for a cheap laptop,  with a good screen, Z560 is ideal. There difference between the Z460 and Z560 is a mere Rs.300.  Students looking at a laptop for college might want to consider this.
