The Vaio NW is a beautiful looking notebook dressed in rosy brown color and has a textured casing that gives a rought woody feel and after so long atleast one manufacturer understood that glossy finish notebooks are not good.
Display
The Vaio NW features a widescreen display of 15.5 inches having an aspect ratio of 16:9. The screen is glossy and is bad for bright light conditions as it maximises reflections. The display supports a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, and the big screen size makes it comfortable to work with multiple windows opened at the same time. Color reproduction and brightness is one thing that is commedable about this notebook, all the visuals reproduced are crisp and vibrant. If you are still looking for a bigger screen then don\\\'t mind because you can connect your big screen television to this notebook via the onboard HDMI port.
Webcam and Microphone
The NW features a VGA(640 x 480 pixel) resolution webcam and a mono microphone onboard. Along with this there are 3.5mm jacks available to connect external microphone and headphones.
Keyboard, Palmrest and Trackpad
The palmrest is big and comfortable all thanks to its 15 inch size. When taking of the keyboard this notebook features a chicklet style keyboard which is very comfortable to work on and the keys are nicely spaced out. One thing nice about this keyboard is that the design prevents the accumulation of dust in between the keys as here they are covered. The Touchpad is something i did not like about this notebook. Its glossy finish makes the finger stick to it while working.
Configuration
When this notebook was launched abroad it featured an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a mighty configuration including 4GB RAM, Ati Radeon Graphics and a Blue Ray Drive to top it up. But the Indian version of this notebook features an Intel Pentium T4200 processor and comparitively lower hardware configuration including 2 GB RAM, Onboard Graphics and a DVD RW drive.
Performance
The Vaio NW remained a mediocre performer in out tests. It scored a total of 3879 marks in PC mark 05, which was expected because of the Intel Pentium processor and in 3D mark 05 it scred 1148 marks. In short this notebook is good for basic to mid level computing tasks and basic gaming.
Sound
Sound is one area where it scores good marks. The onboard speakers do a great job and have a very balanced output. They are loud but at the same time they do not miss out on bass. Overall they fulfil the expectations for good quality notebook speakers.
Finally
The low configuration reflects in the performance of this notebook. The Sony Vaio NW notebook is good for handeling basic to mid level computing tasks.
Before we end up making any harsh conclusions we must also consider the price tag which has been kept at Rs. 37990. So Looking at the price versus the configuration the Vaio NW offers a right mix for a overall home entertainment notebook.
