Dell has introduced a new range of revolutionary laptops in the latitude series focused at business computing solutions in Mumbai recently. The new range of laptops in the series include: E5420, E5520, E6220, E6320, E6420, E6520, E6420ATG laptops and the XT3 convertible tablet. These laptops are powered by Intel's second generation Sandy Bridge processors with a starting price of Rs. 40,000, and is expected to go up to 1.5 lakhs depending on the hardware configuration.
The salient features of this new generation laptops include Intel Sandy Bridge processors, backlit keyboard, a larger trackpad area and support for multi-gesture input, touch support on the 14-inch and 15-inch models and sturdier build among other features. The laptop display lid is made of aluminium alloy, while the inner frame is made of a magnesium compound. A single access door holds the key to replacing the faulty parts. However, the overall keypad and trackpad design is unaltered across all the models in the E-series.

The other significant feature is the backward compatibility of the power adapter with all previous generation latitude laptops, in addition to the universal compatibility with all the models in the new series. Each model in the new series ships with an optical drive by default, which can be replaced with an external HDD module, a USB 3.0 module or an external battery module. Thus, the new modular architecture is aimed at greater portability and productivity at the same time. Meanwhile, contactless smart card login and biometric login act as security enhancements and prevent unauthorized access to the system.
