HCL Launches Eco-Friendly Notebook

HCL Infosystems Limited has introduced the ME 40, an eco-friendly notebook that is free of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and available for Rs. 41,500 plus taxes. ME, which stands for Mobile Excitement, are a series of laptops that come with features offering security, encryption, data recovery and support.

Polyvinyl chloride commonly abbreviated as PVC is the third most widely produced plastic. It is cheap, durable and easy to assemble. Although widely used in portable electronics, it poses a few threats to human and environmental health.
 
The HCL ME 40 comes equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor, a 320 GB SATA hard disk and support for up to 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM. It has a 15.4 inch wide LCD screen and a battery life of up to 5 hours. Other features of this laptop include an integrated webcam, a card reader and Bluetooth.

The disposal of laptops and other hardware has always been a cause for concern. Definitely a wise move by HCL, it will also make them popular among the environmentalists.
