Sony India has launched the VAIO S series of laptops in India, considered one of the best mobile PCs brought forth from the company’s stables. The VAIO S series laptops all bear 13.3-inch displays, and come in three models VPC SB16FG, VPC SB17GG and VPC SB 18GG. They all bear the latest second generation Intel Core or Sandy Bridge processors, discrete AMD graphics with graphics switching technology for power savings and battery life. The series have magnesium metal body finishes and a hexa-edge design, making it more durable, lightweight, and aesthetically pleasing.
Prices range from Rs. 56,990 for the Sony VAIO S VPC SB16FG, and Rs. 69,990 for the VPC SB18GG. The top-end processor configuration available is an Intel Core i7-2620M chip, combined with a discrete GPU – an AMD Radeon HD6470M. The base model bears a Intel Core i5-2410M processor with an AMD Radeon HD 6470M GPU. The graphics switching calls the discrete graphics Speed Mode, and switches to Stamina Mode to the Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated solution.

All three models come with Window 7 pre-installed, with the VPC SB17GG and VPC SB 18GG coming with the Professional edition, and the low-end VPC SB16FG with Home Premium. The VAIO S series of laptops bears all the necessary ports and slots, from HDMI to USB (including USB 3.0) ports, to SD card and Memory Stick slots. The chiclet keyboards are responsive, and backlit for ease of use in dim or dark environments. Sony assures a battery life of approximately 6 hours, which can be improved with an optional Externded Battery that is priced at around Rs. 9,720, giving you twice the battery life.
