Toshiba Launches First Notebook with Wireless Display Technology

Toshiba has launched the first consumer notebook that features the latest Intel WiDi (Wireless Display) technology. This technology enables a user to watch videos directly on HDTVs from the notebook without any wires. It uses a HDMI adapter on the flat screen TV to transmit videos wirelessly. The user would need to buy the HDMI adapter separately.

The Toshiba Satellite E205 is design-built with feedback directly from Best Buy shoppers and will be available only at Best Buy in the United States. Other features of the notebook include a 14” LED display, LED backlit keyboard, slot loading DVD Drive, 6-hours of battery life, Wi-Fi wireless-N and Bluetooth 2.1.

It is powered by the Intel Core™ i5-430M processor and 320 GB hard drive. Other laptops for Dell and Sony are expected to join the bandwagon from January 17. Intel had demonstrated this technology at their 2010 CES keynote where Intel CEO Paul Otellini streamed an episode of ‘Lost’ from Netflix to a HDTV. It was done using an Intel powered notebook and a Netgear powered HDMI adapter which will also be available on Best Buy in the United States with the notebooks.

This Toshiba notebook is priced a$999.99 and the Netgear router will be priced close to $100.
