Education being the second largest consumer of notebooks and net books, DELL has once again strengthened its focus on monetizing this target segment with its 'Netbook' series, the latest addition to its Latitude suite. DELL recently announced the launch of its Netbook’s special education edition.  With DELL's entry in the market, other manufacturers would soon follow the suit. However, while they are still working their way to this market segment, DELL has already become a big favorite amongst students, with the launch of DELL Latitude 2100, with an exciting price point and a smart cum compact built.

DELL is the first one to experiment with the netbook segment, by allowing scope for innovation and customization, and not bundling the product with stock configuration. Primarily targeted towards students, DELL Latitude 2100 is designed to offer maximum compatibility with usability. The net book can effectively handle the most basic computing tasks. Also, it has been especially designed to endure the wear and tear it could be subjected to, based on the target market that it is supposed to be serving. The feature highlights of this model are as listed below:

• Ruggedized Built with Optional Carrying Handle : The netbooks come with a ruggerized panel and an optional carrying handle. This provides for the safe handling of the machine, considering the nature of treatment met out by students, in general.

• Network Activity Light on the Lid : This allows the teachers to monitor network activity and thereby, spot out students who might be distracted with irrelevant things, outside the assignment.

• Optional touch screen/ webcam : The machine offers a fun and full featured collaboration for the students, through its optional webcam, touch screen and easy networking capabilities.

• Keyboard with Antimicrobial protection & Optional backlighting : The smart keyboard offers   antimicrobial protection and thereby, helps with inhibiting and reducing the growth of bacteria. This is an US only feature.

• Durable & Rubberized bezel in different colors : The rubberized bezel case adds to the machine's durability and provides easy grip for students. Besides, the exciting colors that one can choose from allow students to customize their machines as per their school or college logo, color code, uniform, theme et cetra

• Personalization with custom inserts : DELL Latitude 2100 has a dedicated window that hosts custom inserts, in order to allow for visual identification of the system.

• Remote systems management : By using the Latitude's 2100 systems management support, IT can push updates overnight via DELL's versatile mobile computing system. Example of such services include wake-on LAN, ASF, SMS et cetra. This feature is currently available only in US, however its being introduced in INDIA very soon.

• Customizations : There is ample scope for customizing the machine. Students can choose from 3 or 6 cell batteries, the Windows or Linux OS, the Traditional drives or SSDs and much more, based on their requirements and utility.

• Backed by 24x7 service network from Dell : DELL customer support operates 24x7 to provide voice or web support to its customers, across the globe and help them troubleshoot any technical glitches or machine related problems.
