Intel Launches next generation notebook processors
Intel on wednesday announced the launch of its fastest notebook processor the Core i7 920XM which is a quad core processor running at 2GHz and having a total of 8MB of level 2 cache. Along with the launch of its fastest processor intel also announced The Core i7 820QM and Core i7 720QM which will run at 1.73GHZ and 1.6GHZ and will feature 8MB and 6MB of level 2 cache respectively.   The Core i7 utilises the Nehalem microarchitecture which is considered to be a significant improvement over Intel\'s earlier used microarchitectures. Some of the benefits include elimination of bottlenecks to improve per watt performance of the processor. With this the new processors can shut down the dormant cores and move the processing to the active cores in order to conserve on power which is im ........

IBM making computer chips out of DNA
After silicone, Scientists at IBM are experimenting with DNA material to make computer chips faster and better. They are using DNA molecules in such a way that they make tiny circuits on which smaller but powerful computer chips can be manufactured. For decades chip makers have been trying to use smaller fabrication techniques to etch out the circuits on silicon. The latest technology in use in 45nm, which will dip as low as 22nm in coming time but the only problem associated with its use is that it will be more difficult and expensive to use. To make these chips, the scientists first create lithographic templates and then they add DNA solution over the surface of the silicon, the DNA origami in turn line themselves up to the patterns etched out. We are still some time away from the first ........

Dell Plans to build ARM based net books with Linux
According to reports, Dell will expand its Linux based net book lineup with the addition of new ARM processor based net books. Linux based net books have double the amount of sales as compared to Windows based net books. The inclusion of open source gives flexibility for both the user and the manufacturer. An open source operating system can be easily be slimmed down to deliver a better experience on devices with limited resources. Although with the inclusion of ARM processors, users will not be able to run Windows operating systems like Windows XP/ Vista/ 7. This means that these machines may be shipped with either Windows CE or with its open source alternative like Ubuntu. With big manufacturers like Dell jumping into the open source arena, open source is expected to gain ground over W ........

Lack of Virtualization Technology in Vaio creates problems for Sony
After the discovery of Sony’s plans about disabling the hardware virtualization and thereby disabling the Virtualization technology (VT) that is required to run Microsoft's Windows 7 XP virtualization technology, tech enthusiasts have started to create a major fuss over it. Listening to all this Sony’s Executive Mr. Xavier Lauwaert says security issues are to blame. Our engineers and QA people were very concerned that enabling VT would expose our systems to malicious code that could go very deep in the operating system structure of the PC and completely disable the latter. There may be a thousand reasons which the company might give in to explain the situation. But as for now it seems that Sony has listened to what its customers are demanding.  According to Lauwaert ........
