My compaq laptop is not working at all if charger is not connected to it

Question : I purchased 2 laptops from PC World Compaq presario CQ61 in August 2009 taking out buy now and pay 12month later interest free scheme. However just before the year was up in July 2010 I paid in full for both the laptops to avoid any interest being occured. Just after the 1 year warrenty had expired the laptop started heating up and the battery didnt charge as well, it eventually in Jan stopped charging and would only work if the charger was plugged in, and as soon as I took the charger out the screen would go blank and switch off. I contacted Pc World directly who said that there was nothing that they could do. I would like to know what can I do. any information would be gratefull.

Answer : Dear Naheed,
As you have mentioned that product warranty is over, therefore, you have no legal right to get it repaired without costs after such expiry. But appreciate one thing if you have experienced same problems in the product even before the warranty periods got over, then you can raise a consumer dispute on that basis. If that is the case, you might have reported such problems at various stages. This is crucial as you have to establish your case on these lines that the problem was inherent and persisting. You can send them a legal notice raising your disputes. If they do not come up with any solution then you can file consumer complaints. At times, it happens that at the time of notice itself the company comes up with some alternate solution. So without delay write a letter to them and send it through two or three different modes.
