LGs Jazz theatre 42LH60YR was reviewed with much anticipation since we had a very good experience with the LG 42LG80FR. The wine-red highlights have given way to a marble finish with blue highlights — not to everyone’s taste. It’s heavy and very well built. The blue lighting on either side doesn’t interfere with watching videos but is very distracting and cannot be turned off. Styling on the front is minimalistic and the remote similar to its predecessor. The on-screen menu system is excellent.

This display has what LG calls a 5.1 speaker system, but quite frankly this is underpowered compared to what we expected, but is still better than other HDTVs. The display has slight backlight bleeding noticeable on the two top corners. This also intrudes in darker scenes in movies. Colour rendition is very good, not the best we’ve seen, but are lively. The contrast ratio is good, but a little deficient for hardcore aficionados– a PVA panel would be better than an IPS panel in this regard. The 200 Hz panel seems more like marketing hype, since we haven’t noticed issues with regular 60 Hz panels, but the feature is there. Connectivity options are good – 3 HDMIs and a USB to go with the regular connects. It’s a bit pricey however, at Rs. 76,990 – we reckon you either wait a bit for the price to fall, or skip this.
