Toshiba unveils Cell powered Regza LED TV

Toshiba electronics Japan today announced the launch of their latest innovation, the Cell Regza for the flat screen television market.  The Cell Regza stands for the Cell processing engine or the processor that has been used in this television. It is the same 8 Core processor that powers the Popular Sony Playstation 3.

The Cell processor is used to power the whole GUI engine, the time shift capability and multiple channel recording option. Using the 3D GUI a user can browse through channels in an extremely intuitive globe like multi-window layout. It is like Picture-in-Picture (PiP) on steroids. The processor also gives the television the muscle to record up to 8 simultaneous channels in high definition. Up to 26 hours of HD programming can be recorded on the built-in 3 Tera Bytes of storage, out of which 2 TB is used for recording programs. The rest is utilized by the on-board Blu-ray player for storing some of your favorite titles.

The display is a big 55-inch LED backlit unit that boasts of a mighty 240Hz refresh rate and a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a never heard resolution of 3840x2160 pixels, that is nearly double the resolution of standard full high definition televisions available today.  The LCD panel also features the self-congruency technology that provides improved picture details and sharper picture around the edges. Also the LED panel is split in to 512 regions for better pictures, as opposed to a standard of 96 regions that is found on most televisions today.

Along with all this, Toshiba has tried to keep this television as slim as possible and they have given a separate Box that includes the Cell engine, Hard drives, Blu-ray player and the tuner,  which is very similar to the one found on the Sony ZX1 LCD television. But the size of the box is big and which will make the setup process a bit cumbersome but once it is set you will have no problems.

Sound is taken care by a sleek and stylish 7.1 Chanel virtual surround sound reproducing speaker bar that is placed right under the screen.

This television is launched in Japan and will be available for purchase in early December this year with a price tag of $11,140 approx. No information is available on the international release date and price.
