Review Details

Acer has recently added PDA phones to its portfolio with the launch of 5 models. Here is  the top of the line M900 PDA.

Display
This is probably the biggest smartphone available today and the reason is the big 3.8-inch touch-screen. The screen has a native resolution of 480x800 pixels. It utilizes resistive touch technology which makes it responsive to even the slightest gesture and touch. The LCD has a reflective finish which is a fingerprint magnet and may cause some problem in bright light conditions.

Design and Usage
Looking it from a design perspective the first thing that comes to mind is that it is really big. It will not fit in your pocket. The device also features a nicely laid out slide out QWERTy keypad. The keys are big and well spaced. Another thing to be mentioned is that the keys are not flat they rise slightly towards the end, which makes this keyboard better and comfortable even if you use it for longer hours and big fingers.

Hardware and Software
It houses a 533MHz Samsung processor along with 128MB ROM. Overall this duo handles most tasks pretty well. Occasionally you would need to keep track of how much memory is being used and terminate all unused applications. It also features a 5 megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash. For connectivity it has Wi-Fi, Blue tooth GPRS and HSDPA so u can be dead sure on wherever you may go you will stay connected as far as you stay in the mobile zones. The phone also has a 20 channel Sirfstar iii GPS chip which can be used for tracking location, or to navigate with the help of software like Google maps.

The operating system used on this is Windows Mobile 6.1. It has all the standard features like the Pocket office, Internet Explorer, media player and file explorer. In terms of stability this phone is good and it never hangs or crashes. In the time that I used this device, which was way over two weeks it never froze. Occasionally you might feel it is being slow but once you close all the unused applications it will be back on track.

Call Quality and Security
In call quality is critical for a phone no matter what class or brand it belongs to. The M900 performs good in this respect. This is the first phone to feature a biometric finger print reader. Nice feature that performs well too. You can guard your phone or your contacts or practically anything on it with just a simple finger swipe. If your phone is stolen then also it protects your data too. It will not allow the phone to unlock and even if the person restarts the phone then it will not allow it to boot up.

Conclusion
The Acer M900 is a good, feature rich Windows based business oriented device. It sports some unique features like Biometrics fingerprint scanner and advanced features like Wi-Fi and GPS. But it has its down sides too the biggest being its size and weight. But it is priced high at almost Rs. 38,000. Well if you are looking for a good windows based phone and if you have the money to spare the definitely buy it and you will not regret it. And if you do not have then you can look out for options such as HTC touch or Motorola Q9h which are great windows based PDAs at a smarter price.
