Look & Feel

The HTC Chacha looks sleek and stylish with a slight curve that makes it easier to use. The keypad and display are curved towards each other. It provides quick access to Facebok with the “f” button placed just below the keypad, though similar access is not available for twitter or Google+.

The build quality is plastic but still good. We found the battery cover a difficult to open but overall the phone justifies its price. The unit that we received was white and silver color combination and looked classy, though difficult to keep clean.

Features

It supports a 2.6 inch touchscreen with 480 x 320 pixels screen resolution. It has a QWERTY Keypad as well. The “F” button that provides direct access to Facebook is a little disappointing as it just takes you to the “post an update” box. For the full Facebook access you still need to go the Facebook App. It also has a separate Facebook Chat Application which makes the phone look cluttered. However the latest Android 2.3 OS is amazing. The Sense UI is very good and delivers great performance as well as timing.

The UI on this HTC has been specifically updated for the chacha’s display and incorporates the design, widget and all the other elements in the latest version.

Performance

This mobile supports an 800MHz Processor which seems a little slow after all the 1 GHz processors we are used to. Once we had loaded all the application, data and services the difference seems even more. The HTC Chacha supports a 512 MB RAM which is very less if you like to use a lot of applications on your phone.

The HTC Chacha supports a 2.6 inch display which is very clear and bright. The 480 x 320 pixels display resolution is good but we notice a slight gradation with some colors. We were quite impressed with the keypad; the big keys are easy to use and well spaced.

We found the call quality to be average but not loud enough for noisy places. The speaker is also good but not meant for volumes above 70%. It supports a 5MP Camera which is not as good as the Nokia E6 or even Blackberry Bold 3. The main problem is the very basic sensor which ruins the color depth. The 1250 mAh battery is not enough if you want to use it for web browsing, social networking, voice calls, emails, and the full works. The battery lasts for a mere 12 hours.

Our Take

You can choose to but the Nokia E6 for the same price. The HTC Chacha is meant for calling and doesn’t support Android or direct access to Facebook. The battery life is disappointing but might be ok for those who don’t mind carrying a charger around. The Nokia E6 supports the Symbian Anna which offers a great touchpad experience and has a longer battery life may be a better buy!
