Nokia X6

The Nokia X6 is he first Nokia phone to come with a capacitive touchscreen. This one is available in two versions, with different storage capacities- 8GB and 16GB.

Build Quality & Ergonomics
The Nokia X6 has a bar-style form factor. The 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen has a very thin bezel around it. The call, menu, and disconnect keys are placed just below the display.The earpiece and the secondary video camera are placed above the display. The left panel houses the SIM card slot. On the right panel are the volume controls, the phone lock key and a dedicated camera button.

The 3.5mm audio jack and the charging port are on the top panel, along with the microUSB and the power button. On the rear panel is the 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flash.

Overall, the phone’s build quality feels good quality, and the weight of just122g makes this quite lightweight as well. The keypad feels solid, and the buttons have a nice chunky feel to them. The fact that this phone has a glossy finish makes this a looker, but difficult to maintain in the long run.

The battery cover can be removed easily, but is a but tricky to put back. Even with all the locks properly snapped in place, the panel doesn’t feel as if it has fit in well, with a bit of gap near the top portion.

The 3.2-inch display has the 360x640 resolution, and offers good display quality. Works well in bright sunlight too.

The touch screen is barely okay. The response is a little unsure at most times, while the precision of input is not bad responding well to cursor placement gestures.

The phone’s accelerometer has the habit of switching the phone into landscape mode, even though it may still be in a vertical position!

Interface
The X6 has the Symbian Series 60 release 5 operating system. Now that the Symbian^3 OS is available, it is a surprise that Nokia has not given that goodness to the X6. The phone’s home screen has 4 fixed, but customizable application shortcuts near the the bottom. The signal bar is on the top left, while the clock- analog or digital, is on the right side.

There are multiple themes available for the phone, which allows you to customize the information and the tiles on the home screen. However, do not expect too much in terms of the customizability, since it works in rigid boundaries.

The phone comes a few apps preinstalled- EA’s Spore and the Asphalt 4. Nokia Ovi Store works on this phone, allowing you to download apps easily.

Web browsing is really disappointing on the native web browser. Multitouch doesn’t work well, which makes zooming in on the web pages a pain. We suggest you download the Opera Mini web browser.

Performance

The call quality offered by the X6 is quite good, but does suffer from call drops in low signal areas. The call volume is pretty loud, but the clarity on offer is just about okay. Video playback is quite good, with the playback being smooth and no pixelation visible.

The 5MP camera with the Carl Zeiss lens click some pretty sharp images, even in low light conditions. Camera settings are good, with plenty of options to satisfy the amateur photographer.
 
The S60 interface does slow down a bit if you open a couple of apps in the background. Some applications may refuse to open at this time, citing the “out of sufficient memory” error.

The battery backup on offer is decent only, with a the battery running out of juice in one day, with medium to heavy use.
 
Verdict
The X6 is built well, has stylish looks, okay specs and a not too bad camera. However, it does feel slggish and expensive when you compare it to the low cost Android devuces from Samsung, HTC, Motorola and LG.
