First Look

Samsung SGH-i450 is a slider Phone 240 x 320 Pixels Screen Resolution, 2.4 Inches Screen Size, 256 K Color Display, 2 MP Camera, Digital Zoom and FM Radio.

It is equipped with a microSD card slot with support for capacities up to 4GB and a 3.5mm audio jack round out the music features on this phone. Connectivity options on the Samsung i450 include tri-band GSM support (900/1800/1900MHz) and WCDMA on the 2100MHz band. Data speeds up to 3.6Mbps, thanks to HSDPA, and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support for stereo headsets is also included.

The Samsung i450 features a 2.0 megapixel camera on the back, with video recording. The front of the device features a second VGA camera for video-calling.
 

The SGH-i450's display is 2.4" in size and offers 240 x 320 pixel resolution with up to 256k color shades. The Samsung i450 weighs 114g (4oz) and measures 101mm x 52mm x 17.8mm (3.98" x 2.0" x .7").

Samsung on Symbian


Another Samsung, another slider phone—the i450 is however, based around a Symbian S60 platform which is rare for Samsung phones. The slider mechanism isn’t the best we’ve seen and by Samsungs  standards is quite mediocre to be honest. Build quality is good, but once again the pizzazz that was present in the costlier phones is curiously absent and sorely missed. The keypad is well laid out and easy to use. The large buttons on the front facia are also rather difficult to misuse, and the menu system is very intuitive— typical Symbian. The high resolution  screen measures 2.4  inches diagonally, but uses an outdated panel (256,000 colours). The 2.0 megapixel camera is also strictly included simply for the sake of including a camera— it’s only good for the odd shot or so. Music quality is good, and music aficionados won’t be disappointed.


Overall, the SG Hi450 is a phone that is overpriced in our opinion, although it’s not a bad phone. Sadly the price puts in a league where it gets hammered by some unrelenting competition. Such features and performance can be found for a lot less if you take a look at our tables. At Rs 16,799 you can afford to  give this one a wide berth.
