With customization as its middle name (or is it its last name?), Android does offer the ability to tweak the OS in your smartphone quite extensively. With looks being the proverbial flag-off. And there is just the perfect app to do that, be it Android on the smartphone or Android on the tablet.
LauncherPro offers absolute control over how android looks, and will look. So much so that you shouldn’t have any hesitation in replacing the preloaded UI on the phone (ex- HTC Sense, Samsung TouchWiz) with this one as the default home screen.
Download this from the Android Market, and install. When you press the home key next, it’ll usually show up “open with” Launcher Pro and the other preloaded UI (HTC Sense, MotoBlur etc.). Select Launcher Pro, and tick the ‘set as default’ option. This will set Launcher Pro as the default home screen.
   
The basic (also known as free) version of Launcher Pro offers full functionality, except for the detailed widgets. For that you need to download the paid version. However, we suggest you stick to the free version first. You can download themes from Android Market, and a majority of them are free to download anyway. Goodies like 3D wallpapers are something that you might find interesting. The settings option will allow you to change the way the UI effects behave, and even tweak response times for multiple commands.
We have tried this on a variety of Android smartphones - the high end ones and even the not very powerful ones. Every time, we came to the conclusion that the likes of HTC Sense, Samsung TouchWiz UI and even LG’s Breeze UI do tend to slow down phone performance a tad bit more than expected! Apart from the customization options, the fact that it may just make your smartphone respond quicker as well is just enough motivation, we think.

The customization options are just immense, and if you tinker around with it long enough, the resultant look might just be the best around.
