India Mobile Subscriber Base Hits 926.53 million

According to the latest reports from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India's telephone user base was increased by 9.47 million new subscribers in December last year, making it a total of 926.53 million subscribers.

The latest numbers put India’s overall teledensity at 76.86 per cent, with balance between urban and rural shifting - the number of urban subscribers dropped from 66.11 per cent to 65.97 per cent, while rural subscribers rose to 34.03 per cent.

The TRAI report also revealed the latest requests for mobile number portability, or MNP figures, which rose to 29.24 million in December, compared to 25.83 million in November.
Idea Cellular once again was the biggest gainer in December 2012, adding 2.38 million to its total of 106.38 million subscribers. Uninor also saw good growth, adding 2.12 million to its 36.30 million subscriber base.
